Chrysalides on the way!

Today we were observing the caterpillars and I didn't get my camera fast enough to video one of them spinning. Look closely and you can see one of them getting bigger:)

"Alvin and the Chipmunks"

Today we listened to "Alvin and the Chipmunks". The kids were not sure who these Chipmunks were since the movies have been updated.

Caterpillars- Day 7

Today we noticed that the caterpillars are beginning to hang from the lid. Mrs. L(one of our science teachers) assured us that they are going into the quiet phase which is the next step:)

The countdown is on!

Tomorrow at this time my hair will be a "little" shorter:) The students are so excited! We know that the hair and accessories will be going to a good cause:)

"Chicken Sunday"- Read Aloud

Patricia Polacco "Chicken Sunday"

Today we had a guest reader Ms. M read "Chicken Sunday".

We love when Ms. M reads to our class:) Thanks again!

Guest Blogger- Part 4

Retired W librarian Mrs.H returned to read one of her favorite books on the alphabet, bringing along all 26 items to match each letter. The Kinders loved coring an apple and playing jacks--a first time experience for both activities.

Guest Blogger- Part 3

W Grade 3 ESL student T listens to Mr. M explain the features of the wing of a red tail hawk. Thomas was the only student who predicted the correct date, April 20, that the first chick would hatch in the hawk nest on the window ledge at the Franklin Institute. He has compared and contrasted the hawk nest to that of the barn owl in California. Both nests can be watched on a live camera feed.

Guest Blogger- Part 2

Kinders J and S examine the tail, wing, and talons of a red tail hawk brought to us by Mr. M, an avid outdoorsman and ES teacher in the next classroom. The Kinders have been following the progress of the red tail hawk nest at the Franklin Institute by checking the live camera daily. They have learned the meaning of predator and prey, preening, habitat, down, and camouflage from reading about birds. Also, they have been watching the live camera feed from the barn owl nest in California. Then they discuss the similarities and differences between the two birds. They have made predictions about the hatching of the eggs and the chicks first flight.

Guest Blogger!

Today Mrs. W sent us some pictures to share on our blog!

Here is one photo from last week of Grade 2 ESL student D doing a power point presentation to his classmates on hawks. We have been following the live red tail hawk nest camera on the window ledge at the Franklin Institute. In addition to putting together his research into a power point, he did a time line and made predictions on the date the chicks would hatch. Now we are predicting the date of their first flight in June.
