71. Maria Tallchief


As Lucy was making people laugh, Maria Tallchief (1925-) was dancing. Born on an Osage Indian reservation in Oklahoma, she became a prima ballerina of the New York Citry Ballet and the first American ballerina to win international fame.

    I would have loved to have seen her dance. Look at how elegantly she poses en pointe.
