One young soldier called Robert Shurtleff fought in battles. When hurt, he tended the wounds himself so that the doctors wouldn't find out "he" was really former schoolteacher Deborah Sampson(1760-1827). But she got sick, discovered and discharged- a veteran of the Revolutionary War.
She was one determined lady!
