Dian Fossey(1932-1985) led to changed notions about how people and wild animals got along together in a world with fewer and fewer wild places. Until a human killed her, she studied the friendly, intelligent mountain gorillas of Africa.

I wanted to be like Diane Fossey and Jane Godall and study primates in their natural habitat. Even though I never followed that dream, I always taught my students that all life, even animal life, is precious.
