  1. This lady loved music, especially opera. She was born in a small town in Missiouri and grew up in Kansas City. She was a child prodigy in both Math and violin by the age of 10 and was already performing with orchestras.

She founded the Opera Company of Boston and staged operas insisting that the singers ACT as well as sing. Opera started to have a whole new look because of her.

she did not to let obstacles distort her vision. One of her most famous quotes tells you how much she loved doing what she did, "The secret of living is to find people who will pay you money to do what YOU would pay to do if you had the money."

Caldwell was the first recipient of the Kennedy Center Award for excellence. She is also recipient of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Award and the 1996 National Medal for Arts.
