It is a beautifully simple monument. However, I have a difficult time standing before it. Too many young men from my generation and too many friends are listed there. I can't help but wonder what they would have become had they lived. Maybe that is what monuments like this are really for - yes they honor those who fought and died but they remind us to that war is such a waste of life.
