12. Sacagawea

In 1804, Thomas Jefferson sent a Corps of Discovery across the continent to the Pacific. Captain Lewis and Clark were guided by their translator, a young Shoshone mother, Sacagawea(1786?-1812).

  1. So many people have a hard time pronouncing her name correctly, but it doesn't matter. She made it into the history books because of her willingness to guid the strange white men accross the continent to the Pacific Ocean. That was quite a long walk.
