The refined Sarah Grimke(1792-1873) and her younger sister, Angelina, of South Carolina went to northern cities to give anti-slaver (abilotionist) talks. They were among the first women to lecture in public, shocking people who thought women shoudl be seen and not heard. The Grimke sisters linked freedom for slaves and female equality in the fight for human rights. Laws then made it possible to take women's property, even their children.

ReplyDeleteI think that if I lived during those times, I would have had to speak out too or I would have been pretty angry all of the time at the injustice of inequality
