Lucretia Mott lived right here in Montgomery County in what is now Cheltenham. There is a written record of her coming to speak about abolishing slaves at a Quaker Meeting House that I attended. At that time, people were so torn about slavery that the elders of the meeting would not let her speak inside the meeting house. So, those members who were opposed to slavery built a wooden platform out of doors for Lucretia to stand on and speak.
