Probably the best-known woman of the Civil War(besides the fictitious Scarlett O'Hara) was Clara Barton(1821-1912). She was one of thousands of women, who cared for the multitudes of sick and wounded soldieers. Later on, in 1881, Clara Barton started the American Red Cross.
