34. Nellie Bly

Nellie Bly (1867-1922) was the first woman investigative reporter. She went undercover in factories, jails, and even an insany asylum to tell how poor people were working and living. But her most famous story was outdoing the made-up hero of Jules Verne's novel Around the World in 80 Days. Nellie Bly made it in 72 days, 6 hours, 11 minutes (November 1889-January 1890)
