In the 1880's, people on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean crowded to see Buffalo Bill's idea of the vanishing Wild Wst. One of his most popular acts was deadeye crack-shot Annie Oakley, born Phoebe Ann Moses(1860-1926). She could drill a dime tossed in the air.
Did you know that when a circus gives out free tickets to a show that they are called "Oakleies" or "Annie Oakleies"? That's because during the show and her exhibition of shooting she would have someone hold up a bunch of tickets and she'd shoot a hole right the center. Since they couldn't sell them, they gave them away, usually to kids who would get in free. You'd hear kids yelling "I got an Annie Oakley".
